Learn the Basics of Mining in the World of Warcraft
In the World of Warcraft mining is taking a mining pick and turning raw gems and metals into jewels, potions, weapons, armors and other various items that you want. Moreover, mining is considered a gathering and primary skill that is very useful if you want to use the materials you have gathered and created in your quests.
Since mining is a primary skill, you can only have one more for the profession limit of two. Always take note that if you decided to unlearn mining, the mining knowledge will be reset to zero if you have decided to learn it back. Usually, mining is learned to create new materials or to generate profit. But mining also goes well with any class and any profession too.
To start learning how to mine, you have to look for a mining trainer so that you can pick the mining profession. The mining trainer will then teach you everything you need to learn about mining through your interactions. But before the mining trainer can share the knowledge with you, several copper must be paid for you to become an Apprentice Miner.
As your skill progresses, you will see a number of mining ranks until you cannot continue unless you have additional training. Once you get to this stage, pay any mining trainer so that your mining rank can increase. This will work in any rank except the Master level wherein you have to go to Outland and learn from a Master trainer. The following are the mining ranks: Apprentice (Level 1-75), Journeyman (Level 76-150), Expert (Level 151-225), Artisan (226-300) and Master (300-375).
Mining can be combined with any other profession but there are a few that matches it well more than the others. Here is a list of other professions and their suitability with mining.
Alchemy
Although alchemy can transform metals and other potions may require metals, it does not go well with mining.
Blacksmithing
Blacksmithing is a good candidate for a second profession once you have decided to pick mining because gems and metals are acquired through mining. It would be very hard to level up on blacksmithing if you do not learn mining because the ores needed are severely expensive.
Enchanting and Tailoring
These skills do not get in the way of the mining skill.
Skinning
Skinning is also a gathering skill like mining and with the two of them combined, profit can be easily earned.
Engineering
This skill requires unusual metals and gems so mining will be very handy for this.
Herbalism
Herbalism is not a good skill to pair up with mining because both skills need the mini-map. The problem is that the mini-map detects only one kind of node at a given time. Nodes are the locations of the mineral veins and herbs.
Jewelcrafting
This is another skill that will be more beneficial with the use of mining since rare gems can be located with ease.
Leatherworking
Leatherworking needs leather from skinning so mining is not a good skill to pair it up with.
Once you have decided on your second profession you can now explore the hills, different caves, several mountains and landscapes for mineral veins. Most often than not these mineral veins can be found on foot and have static spawns. But if random respawn time occurs, do not wait for it because it can take several minutes to hours for a vein to respawn.
